Russ Kendall's Smoke House: Freshly Smoked Seafood on Lake Superior’s Shores

We ordered a sugar coated trout, keta salmon, and a herring for fish. All three were really great, the fatty salmon tasted delicious and paired so well with the leaner fish. We also bought Jamaican jerk cheese curds which were a little spicy and tasted great with the fish. We also bought some cheese sticks that were pretty regular but good. All in all, this a must go-to place of you're going to be on highway 61 North of Duluth. The staff are friendly and helpful, a mom and pop shop, people making salmon spread in the back to keep up with demand. Workers walking in with fishing gear and bringing in more fish as the goes on. There's also a beer and drink selection with some candy and goods like maple syrup. I'll be coming back here everyone in heading north of the cities!

This place is simply AMAZING! First off, take the scenic route to get there. The place is small. Sometimes there will be quiet of bit of people so also keep that there may be some wait. Any of the smoked fish are excellent! Reasonable prices. They also have some drinks and other prepackaged food items for sale. Fish is packed up in newspaper which is really cool! Place looks super clean as well. Staff was super nice. Asked the staff about recommendations and they were really helpful.

The smell of the smoked fish made us hungry. We were expecting a smoked fish to be hot or at least warm. But, it was cold. The taste was great. We bought the trout.

Quick stop for smoked trout on our way north to Cook County and Boundary Waters. If you like smoked fish Kendall’s is where it’s at! We had smoked trout and it was delicious!

10/10 recommend. Every time we'd visit the North Shore since I was a kid we'd go to Russ Kendalls for smoked fish. It is perfectly smoked, SO delicious. My brother just had some shipped to me for Christmas - sugar smoked trout (my favorite!) - the BEST present ever. The quality remains undiminished.

Best smoked salmon I've ever had. And I try all in-house smoked I can. It's not overly smoked. Soft. Moist and oily. And the price is in line unlike other places in the area which are twice as much. The salmon spread is top notch also. The walleye was not great. Walleye should be fried. It wasnt bad, but the salmon blows it out of the water. I drove my motorcycle the 6 hour round trip one day, just to get salmon.

If you find yourself in Duluth, this smokehouse is a must-visit. We have returned time and time again, and their smoked fish consistently maintains exceptional quality and flavor. My personal favorite is the sugar-cured lake trout, which is perfectly balanced in sweetness and saltiness, with tender, juicy meat that is never dry. I have also tried the smoked salmon and walleye, which, in my opinion, were decent but slightly on the drier side. Undoubtedly, this is the best smokehouse in Duluth, complemented by excellent service!

LOVE this place! Every time I head North I have to stop by Russ's! Best smoked fish! Coho is my favorite I love it because it's nice and moist. They have many varieties if fish. They also have other local foods. WI cheese and flavored cream cheese.
